No previous experience is required but applicants should be reliable, committed and demonstrate good listening and communication skills. Owing to the nature of the work, it is particularly important that you are available when you say you will be so that clients can trust that they will receive the support they need. Reliability is key.
- Applicants should be friendly, patient and compassionate and able to work both in a team and, occasionally, on their own.
- A positive attitude is essential. A clean driving licence would be helpful but is not essential.
- Successful applicants must always respect the confidentiality requirements of the job and must report any conflict of interest at the earliest opportunity.
- All our volunteers are highly valued by DASU and you will receive full training when you join us and ongoing training throughout your time with us.
- Prospective candidates should be willing to commit to one year as a volunteer and should be available for a minimum of two hours a week (times to suit the volunteer).
- It will be necessary to carry out a full DBS check but you will be able to “shadow” DASU staff or other volunteers whilst waiting for this (although you will not be able to work alone with clients).
- Reasonable travel and parking expenses will be met and you will receive more details on this when you join us.
- Our volunteers are at the heart of our success and every volunteer makes a difference to the work we do and enables us to do more.
- The work you will undertake is highly rewarding but can be challenging. DASU recognises this and will ensure that you are fully supported at all times.
If you would like to make a difference to the lives of those who are suffering from or who have experienced domestic abuse, please call 0333 3600483 or email volunteer@dasunorthwales.co.uk for details on how to apply.
